Bottle traps are a practice to reduce pest beetles in coffee production. They are highly effective against the Coffee Berry Borer and the Black Coffee Twig Borer. The insects are attracted to the bottle by an attractant, get trapped by the water inside it, and drown.
A beetle trap can be easily prepared using an empty plastic water bottle, a smaller bottle with a lid, a string, water, soap, and ethanol.
